The participants from Onebridge Center enjoyed a vibrant and sensory-filled community outing to Boyert’s Greenhouse and Farm. Nestled in Medina, Ohio, Boyert’s is known for its lush greenhouses, friendly animals, and welcoming atmosphere—a perfect destination for a day of exploration, connection, and hands-on learning.
A Day Among the Blooms
As soon as we arrived, our group was surrounded by colorful displays of flowers and plants. From hanging baskets brimming with petunias to rows of bright marigolds and fragrant herbs, the greenhouse offered endless sights, textures, and scents to explore—including wooden benches and carpentry features that added rustic charm to the setting.
Participants strolled through the aisles, gently touching the leaves, observing the different shapes and sizes of plants, and asking great questions about how flowers grow. It was a wonderful opportunity for sensory engagement, encouraging curiosity and sparking conversations about gardening and nature.

Animal Encounters at the Farm
The day wasn’t just about plants! Boyert’s Farm features a small animal area where participants met goats, sheep, rabbits, and chickens. For many, feeding the goats was a highlight of the visit. Laughter and smiles filled the air as participants carefully offered snacks to the animals and enjoyed the soft feel of fur and feathers.
Animal interactions like these support social skills, gentle behavior, and confidence. Participants practiced patience while waiting their turn and shared stories about pets and animals they love.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
At Onebridge Center, we believe in the power of real-world experiences to bring learning to life. This outing supported skills taught in our Life N Tech and Adult Day Services programs, including communication, community engagement, and exploring personal interests.
While exploring the greenhouse, participants learned about plant care, seasonal gardening, and even how greenhouses help plants grow. Staff and volunteers at Boyert’s were incredibly kind, answering questions and making sure everyone felt welcome.
Building Community Connections
One of the most rewarding parts of community outings is the connection they foster—not only among participants but with the local community. Trips like our visit to Boyert’s help participants feel included, valued, and confident exploring public spaces.
We’re so proud of how engaged and enthusiastic our group was throughout the day. From choosing favorite flowers to petting farm animals, every moment was filled with joy and learning.
Looking Ahead
Boyert’s Greenhouse and Farm provided a perfect blend of nature, education, and fun. It’s outings like these that highlight the mission of Onebridge Center—to empower individuals with disabilities to lead enriched, independent lives full of new experiences.
We’re already looking forward to our next adventure!
