CI community outings are great. There are a few reasons why. I would like to mention the fun and independence we get to have. Also we get a break form the daily routine. My favorite outings are, going out to eat, bowling, put-put (golf), the mall, and Medina Square. I find the library and record store to be awesome places to go as well. Last is Sweets and Geeks, check that place out for many different unique candies and hobbies.

I love the freedom they give me. I love being able to choose where I go. I love spending the day with friends

Shannon

Onebridge Center Participant

I enjoy going on outings because we usually go out to lunch and have a great time. My favorite outing was probably when I went mini golfing, because after we mini golfed we went into this store with so much candy. I also enjoy outings because we can relax on those days.  It’s a nice break from the regular week.

FAQ

What kind of activities are included in the day out program?

Activities are selected by participants. The clients are the ones who decide where they want to go within an hour’s distance from Onebridge. Some areas of interest that participants have identified in the past have led us to outings at the Museums, Cleveland and Akron Zoo, local parks, Medina Square, Amish town, putt-putt golf and the always popular bowling.

How often do community outings take place?

Community outings are held twice a week, with groups consisting of four participants and 1 staff member. Each client is given the opportunity to attend an outing up to three times per month.

How do they decide what outings to do each week?

Outings are planned based on individuals interests and split into groups. Each participant completes an interest inventory to help tailor the outings to their preferences. The clients are then paired by interest and research the activity they would like to do based on that interest. The participants have the opportunity to research and prepare for their specific outings, ensuring a more engaging and personalized experience.

Who can join the community day-out activities?

Onebridge Center encourages all participants to participate in outings.

Are the outings accessible to individuals with mobility challenges?

We strive to have a variety of activities that allow our participants to participate. We take accessibility into consideration when we look at the different options and venues available. When the client does their research, they look into ADA bathrooms and accessibility for anyone in a wheelchair.

Do all participants have to participate in the outings?

At Onebridge, we encourage all participants to step out of their comfort zones and explore new opportunities. One way to do this is through our community outings. While participation is optional, we strongly encourage everyone to join these enriching experiences. The choice to participate is entirely yours – but we believe these outings offer a wonderful chance to connect, grow, and have fun along the way.

Does every outing cost money?

No. The outings range from free to money you choose to spend on lunch or a specific activity. You will always have the option to choose an outing that meets your financial needs.
