Onebridge Center participants enjoyed a wonderful community outing to Belden Village Mall in Canton, Ohio. This engaging trip offered not only a chance to explore local shops but also valuable opportunities to practice important life skills, strengthen social connections, and build confidence in a vibrant community setting.
Practicing Real-World Life Skills
For adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and neurodiverse adults, outings like these play an essential role in reinforcing the skills they learn at Onebridge Center. As participants explored the mall, they practiced:
- Navigating public spaces independently
- Making purchasing decisions while managing personal budgets
- Interacting with store employees and peers to strengthen communication skills
- Demonstrating time management by following schedules and staying with their groups
The visit provided a safe and supportive environment for everyone to apply these skills in real-life scenarios, helping to build independence and confidence.
Capturing Memories and Building Connections
During the outing, our group paused to take photos at a few memorable locations within the mall. Participants gathered in front of the well-known Kay Jewelers store, smiling and sharing the joy of the experience. Later, they posed near Sbarro, the popular pizza eatery, capturing more memories and celebrating the camaraderie built during the trip.
These moments reflect the strong sense of community we foster at Onebridge Center. Every outing offers an opportunity not just for skill-building, but also for participants to bond with peers, share laughs, and create lasting friendships.
