At Onebridge Center in Medina, Ohio, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to succeed in today’s digital workforce—regardless of their starting point. That’s why we created the DigiSkills Program: to give individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) the tools, support, and confidence they need to thrive in a professional setting.

Today, we’d like to share Joe’s story—a powerful example of how personalized support, perseverance, and the right learning environment can lead to transformation.

Meet Joe: From Anxiety to Empowerment

When Joe first joined the DigiSkills Program, he faced a challenge that many individuals can relate to: anxiety when confronted with difficult tasks. For Joe, more advanced computer-based lessons were overwhelming, and the fear of failure made it difficult to progress.

But at Onebridge, we meet each learner where they are.

With support from our dedicated staff and our custom Learning Management System (LMS), Joe began to work through these challenges. Our LMS includes specialized courses—including self-paced lessons on anxiety management—which Joe revisited regularly as part of his personal growth plan.

Slowly but steadily, he learned how to recognize and communicate his anxiety, rather than shut down. And just as importantly, he learned how to regain focus and continue working, even when things got tough.

Impressive Progress in Just Six Months

In less than half a year, Joe’s transformation was nothing short of remarkable:

✅ Typing Accuracy Improved to 94%
✅ Overall LMS Grade Average Reached 91.07%
✅ Enhanced computer and digital literacy skills
✅ Promoted to Paid Peer Teacher at Onebridge

Joe’s success wasn’t just about learning how to use a computer — it was about gaining confidence, resilience, and leadership. He has now become a peer teacher, sharing his knowledge and supporting others in the program. His lived experience makes him a compassionate and effective mentor to new learners who might be struggling in the same ways he once did.

What Is the DigiSkills Program?

The DigiSkills Program is a structured, adaptive training initiative offered by Onebridge Center. It’s designed to help adults with developmental disabilities gain critical digital, vocational, and soft skills so they can enter the workforce confidently.

We serve participants from Medina, Akron, and surrounding areas in Northeast Ohio.

Core Features of the Program Include:

✔ Personalized Skill Assessments
Each participant begins with a personal assessment to identify their current skill level—covering everything from typing and data entry to reading comprehension and ability to follow instructions.

✔ Tiered Learning Paths
We don’t force learners to start from scratch. Those with strong computer knowledge can move directly into more advanced courses, while others start with fundamentals.

✔ Real-World Training Modules
Our curriculum includes lessons in:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Google Workspace

  • Typing and data entry

  • Graphic and web design

  • Basic programming and digital navigation

✔ Soft Skills for the Workplace
Equally important are the soft skills that make someone employable:

  • Communication

  • Teamwork

  • Professionalism

  • Time management

  • Adaptability

  • Conflict resolution

These are woven into the program through interactive exercises, role-play, and scenario-based learning.

Joe’s Journey Is Just One of Many

Joe’s success is a testament to what’s possible when personalized support meets determination. He didn’t just learn new skills — he became a leader, a role model, and an advocate for others on their vocational journey.

At Onebridge, we’re honored to walk alongside our participants as they gain confidence, skills, and independence.
