On Saturday, April 25th, OneBridge Center’s CEO Anita Murphy and Program Manager Laura attended the NEO Transition Fair — one of the most valuable events of the year for families, students, and professionals navigating the transition from school-based services to adult programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
The turnout was excellent, with attendees coming from across Medina, Summit, and Cuyahoga Counties — a strong cross-section of the very communities OneBridge serves every day.
What Is the NEO Transition Fair?
The NEO Transition Fair brings together service providers, educators, families, and individuals with IDD in one place to explore the full range of programs and supports available for adults with disabilities in Northeast Ohio. For families approaching the end of a student’s school career, it is one of the best opportunities to ask questions, compare options, and start building a plan for what comes next — all in a single afternoon.
The transition from school to adult services is one of the most significant and sometimes most stressful moments in a family’s journey with a loved one who has IDD. Events like the NEO Transition Fair exist to make that transition less confusing and more connected — putting the right people in the same room so families can leave with real information and real contacts rather than a stack of brochures and no idea where to start.
OneBridge Center at the Fair
Anita and Laura represented OneBridge Center at a branded table, sharing information about our programs with students, families, service coordinators, and transition specialists throughout the day. On the table: information about our Life N Tech adult day services, our DigiSkills vocational computer training program, our pre-employment transition services, and our employment services through OOD.
Events like the NEO Transition Fair are where many families first hear about OneBridge — and where the questions that matter most get answered face to face. What does a typical day look like? How does funding work through the County Board? What happens when a student is ready to move toward employment? These are conversations that are hard to have through a website alone, and fairs like this one make them possible.
Why Transition Planning Matters
The transition from high school to adult services is a moment that benefits enormously from early preparation. Medicaid waiver waitlists in Ohio can be long, eligibility processes take time, and the earlier families begin connecting with providers and understanding their options, the smoother the actual transition tends to be.
At OneBridge Center, we offer pre-employment transition services specifically designed for students who are still in high school — so that by the time they graduate, the groundwork for adult programming or employment is already in place rather than starting from scratch. Our day habilitation programs guide covers how services are funded and accessed in Medina County, and our step-by-step post on how to apply for adult day services in Medina County walks families through the full process from eligibility to enrollment.
For students and families who are just beginning to explore what is available, our post on activities for adults with disabilities in Medina County is a good starting point — it covers the full landscape of programs and community resources available in the area.
Thank You to Everyone Who Stopped By
Anita and Laura thoroughly enjoyed connecting with so many families, students, transition coordinators, and fellow providers at the NEO Transition Fair. Northeast Ohio has a genuinely strong network of people who are committed to supporting adults with IDD — and events like this one are a reminder of how much more is possible when that community comes together.
If you met us at the fair and want to continue the conversation, or if you are a family exploring OneBridge Center’s programs for the first time, we would love to hear from you. We look forward to seeing more families from Medina, Summit, and Cuyahoga Counties at OneBridge Center — and to the next NEO Transition Fair.
