Some days remind you exactly why community outings matter so much. On a recent trip to Scene 75 in Brunswick, Ohio, our OneBridge Center participants and staff shared a day packed with arcade games, bumper cars, laser tag, and plenty of smiles — all topped off with lunch at Dairy Queen. For one participant in particular, it was a day she’ll be talking about for a long time.

Mellisa’s First Time at Scene 75

For Mellisa Kasting, this visit to Scene 75 was a brand-new experience. Walking into one of the largest indoor entertainment centers in the region for the first time can feel a little overwhelming — rows of flashing arcade machines, the rumble of go-karts, and activity in every direction. Our staff recognized this immediately and took it upon themselves to give Mellisa a proper introduction to everything Scene 75 has to offer.

This is what person-centered support looks like in practice. Rather than leaving Mellisa to figure things out on her own, staff walked alongside her, pointed out the different attractions, and helped her find the games and experiences that matched her interests. By the end of the day, she was navigating the floor with confidence. That kind of guided first experience is exactly the foundation our Community Day-Out Activities program is built on — building familiarity, comfort, and independence in real-world settings.

Joseph Takes on the Racing Games and Bumper Cars

If there was a standout moment of pure joy on this outing, it might have been watching Joseph Brown light up behind the wheel of Scene 75’s racing simulators. Joseph made the most of his time, tackling both the high-speed racing arcade games and the bumper cars — two of the venue’s most popular attractions.

The racing simulators at Scene 75 are an experience all their own: full cockpit seating, a steering wheel in hand, and the screen roaring to life in front of you. For Joseph, it was the perfect combination of excitement and skill. Bumper cars added a different kind of fun — spontaneous, social, and laugh-out-loud entertaining. Moments like these reinforce skills our participants build every day through our Life N Tech adult day services program: quick decision-making, coordination, and the ability to engage confidently in new environments.

Daniel Keith: The Scene 75 Insider

Every group outing benefits from someone who knows the lay of the land — and on this trip, that person was OneBridge staff member Daniel Keith. As a frequent visitor to Scene 75 himself, Daniel came prepared with insider knowledge about the best games, how the ticket system works, and which attractions tend to be the most fun depending on what each person enjoys.

According to everyone on the trip, Daniel was genuinely helpful throughout the day — matching participants to games based on their individual preferences and making sure no one felt lost or unsure about what to try next. That kind of attentiveness is a hallmark of the OneBridge team. Our staff don’t just accompany participants on outings; they actively engage alongside them, making the experience richer for everyone involved.

Laser Tag with Wendy — A Free Game and a Big Smile

One of the most memorable moments of the day came from a simple act of generosity. Staff member Wendy wanted to join participant Joseph Brown for a game of laser tag, and the Scene 75 employees were kind enough to offer her a complimentary game so she could accompany him on the course.

That small gesture made a big difference. Laser tag at Scene 75 is a fully immersive experience — darkened rooms, glowing vests, and the thrill of tracking down your opponents through a multi-level arena. Having a trusted staff member right there in the game alongside him meant Joseph could focus on the fun rather than navigating the experience solo. Side-by-side participation like this reflects the heart of inclusive community engagement, and it’s something we prioritize across all of our community day-out activities.

Lunch at Dairy Queen

After a morning and afternoon of non-stop action, the group rounded out the day with lunch at Dairy Queen. Good food and good company have a way of capping off a great day perfectly — and if the smiles on the ride back to OneBridge were any indication, everyone left feeling full in more ways than one.

Shared meals during community outings are more than just a break. They’re an opportunity to practice real-world social skills — ordering food, managing a budget, engaging in conversation in a public setting — all in a relaxed and enjoyable context. These everyday experiences are a meaningful part of how our participants build independence and confidence over time.

Why Community Outings Matter

A trip to Scene 75 might look like a fun day out — and it absolutely is — but for our participants, it’s also much more than that. Every outing is an opportunity to practice navigating unfamiliar environments, trying new activities, building social connections, and experiencing the kind of community integration that forms the foundation of a fulfilling life.

For Mellisa, it was the confidence that comes from exploring somewhere new with a supportive team by her side. For Joseph, it was the thrill of arcade racing and the shared experience of laser tag with a staff member who genuinely wanted to be in the game alongside him. For everyone on the trip, it was another memory made, another skill strengthened, and another reminder of what community looks like when it’s done right.

Outings like this one are central to our Life N Tech adult day services program and reflect the same values that drive our vocational rehabilitation and employment services work — meeting people where they are, building on their strengths, and expanding what’s possible.
